P for Purring - Why do cats purr?


Cats purr for a variety of reasons.


Often, cats will purr when they are being petted or cuddled, as a way of expressing their pleasure and contentment.


Cats may also purr when they are feeling stressed or anxious, as a way of self-soothing.


Some scientists believe that the act of purring may actually have a calming effect on the cat, helping it to relax and feel less anxious.


Additionally, cats may purr when they are in pain or sick, as a way of coping with the discomfort.


Finally, mother cats may purr to soothe their kittens and help them feel safe and secure.
